Tom Bishop’s Paleblue Revolutionizes Rechargeable Battery Market

Tom Bishop, a tech entrepreneur from Park City, Utah, is channeling his “Energizer Bunny” focus into solving a common frustration: batteries. Bishop’s company, Paleblue, has created a groundbreaking solution with long-lasting rechargeable batteries that outperform the unreliable, slow-charging, low-voltage alternatives on the market.

Parents and eco-conscious consumers alike can appreciate the frustration of epic birthday presents that don’t include batteries, and the guilt of tossing dead batteries into junk drawers. Paleblue aims to address both issues with rechargeable batteries that replace up to 1,000 single-use alkaline batteries and charge directly via USB-C.

Bishop’s motivation stems from the staggering waste generated by single-use batteries. “In the U.S. alone, 10 million batteries are discarded daily, resulting in 20,000 pounds of waste per hour,” he says. “We knew we could do better.” Advancements in battery technology and electronics have improved many products, yet single-use batteries remain common. Bishop, leveraging his background in consumer electronics innovation, decided it was time for a change.

Paleblue’s journey began with a successful Kickstarter campaign in January 2020, and the company has sold 2.5 million batteries since, saving around 110 million pounds of single-use alkaline battery waste. These batteries maintain a steady 1.5 volts thanks to high-quality lithium-ion chemistry. Charging is efficient, taking one hour for AAA batteries and 90 minutes for AAs. Each battery features its own USB-C port, eliminating the need for a separate wall charger.

Priced at $30 for a four-pack of AAs, Paleblue batteries offer significant long-term savings despite a higher upfront cost compared to disposables. Buyers from the company’s website also enjoy a “Charged For Life” guarantee.

Looking ahead, Bishop is committed to continuous improvement. “Future batteries will be longer-lasting, faster-charging, and easier to use. We’re already on our third-generation products and working on new innovations as quickly as possible.”

Paleblue is setting a new standard for rechargeable batteries, combining sustainability with cutting-edge technology. This innovation not only benefits consumers but also contributes significantly to reducing environmental waste.
