Google has launched its Gemini AI app in India, offering support for nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This follows the rebranding of Google’s Bard AI chatbot to Gemini in February and the subsequent launch of a standalone app. After a four-month wait, Indian users can now access the app, enhancing convenience for using the chatbot.
“Exciting news! 🇮🇳 Today, we’re launching the Gemini mobile app in India, available in English and 9 Indian languages. We’re also adding these local languages to Gemini Advanced, plus other new features, and launching Gemini in Google Messages in English.”
Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced the launch on X (formerly Twitter). Pichai stated.
Gemini will also be integrated into Google Messages in India, enabling users to draft messages, brainstorm ideas, plan events, and more directly within the app. Initially, this feature will be available in English on select devices, including some Pixel and flagship Samsung models.
Additionally, Google is bringing the Gemini 1.5 Pro language model to India. This model features a 1 million token window, capable of handling extensive input, such as long documents (up to 1,500 pages) and hours of videos.
To access Gemini on Android, users can download the new Gemini app or opt-in via Google Assistant. Once Gemini is selected as the default assistant, it can be accessed with a corner swipe or by pressing the power button on some devices. iOS users will soon be able to access Gemini directly from the Google app.
