Apple to Collaborate with Google on Gemini Integration

In a groundbreaking announcement at WWDC 2024, Apple confirmed its future plans to work with Google’s Gemini AI model, expanding its third-party integrations for Siri. This collaboration was revealed by SVP Craig Federighi following the keynote presentation that introduced Apple Intelligence and detailed a partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri.

Federighi emphasized Apple’s commitment to enhancing Siri’s capabilities by exploring partnerships with other AI models. “We’re looking forward to doing integrations with other models, including Google Gemini, for instance, in the future,” Federighi stated. He added that while there are no specific announcements at this time, this direction reflects Apple’s broader strategy.

The initial integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT is set to roll out later this year. This feature will allow users to access ChatGPT through Siri without needing to sign up for an account or pay for premium services. Federighi assured that Siri will prompt users before redirecting them to ChatGPT, maintaining transparency and control over shared data.

“Now you can do it right through Siri, without going through another tool,” Federighi explained. “Siri, it’s really important to understand, will ask you before you go to ChatGPT. Then you can have that conversation with ChatGPT. Then, if there’s any helpful data referenced in your question that you might want to supply to ChatGPT, we’re going to ask, ‘Do you want to send this photo?’ From a privacy point of view, you’re always in control and have total transparency.”

This announcement marks a significant step in Apple’s efforts to enhance its AI ecosystem, ensuring Siri remains a cutting-edge tool for users while prioritizing privacy and user control.
