PwC Partners with OpenAI to Lead in Generative AI Adoption

In a groundbreaking move, PwC has announced its new status as the largest enterprise customer and first reseller of OpenAI’s enterprise product, marking a significant milestone in the generative AI boom. The accounting giant unveiled this strategic partnership on Wednesday, signaling a robust commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence across its operations.

As part of this landmark deal, PwC will deploy ChatGPT Enterprise—a version of the Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s chatbot designed specifically for large companies—to its workforce. This rollout will impact 75,000 employees in the U.S. and 26,000 employees in the UK, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the agreement.

PwC’s engagement with generative AI is extensive, with the firm actively involving over 95% of its UK and US consulting client accounts in AI discussions and implementations. “We are actively engaged in genAI with over 95% of UK and US consulting client accounts, alongside discussing the use and implications of AI with many of our audit clients,” PwC stated.

While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, PwC has made it clear that this agreement builds upon their previously announced $1 billion investment in generative AI technology. The firm has already been developing custom GPTs to assist employees with various tasks, including tax return reviews and the generation of dashboards and reports.

This strategic alliance not only underscores PwC’s dedication to innovation but also highlights OpenAI’s growing influence in the enterprise sector. OpenAI, which has been expanding its customer base beyond its partnership with Microsoft, has been actively courting Fortune 500 companies. In a series of events hosted by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, executives pitched AI services to corporate leaders in San Francisco, New York, and London, showcasing the potential of AI for corporate use.

The deal signifies a significant step forward for both companies, with PwC poised to enhance its service offerings through advanced AI capabilities and OpenAI solidifying its position as a leader in enterprise AI solutions.
