MP’s Daughter Accused in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Chennai

In another tragic hit-and-run incident involving a high-profile individual, Madhuri, the daughter of YSR Congress Party‘s Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, allegedly ran her BMW over a man sleeping on a pavement in Chennai’s Besant Nagar. The victim, Surya, a 24-year-old painter, succumbed to his injuries, and Madhuri has since been granted bail.

Incident Details

On Monday night, Madhuri was driving the BMW with a female friend when she reportedly ran over Surya, who was sleeping on the pavement in an inebriated state. While Madhuri fled the scene immediately, her friend stayed behind to argue with bystanders before also leaving. Despite being rushed to a hospital by some people from the crowd, Surya died from his injuries.

Aftermath and Arrest

Surya, recently married just eight months ago, left behind grieving relatives and community members who demanded justice. They gathered at the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station, insisting on action against Madhuri. Police investigations revealed that the car was registered to the BMR Group, owned by Beeda Masthan Rao, and traced back to Puducherry.

Following the identification, Madhuri was arrested but received bail at the police station itself, prompting outrage among the victim’s family and local residents.

Political and Public Reactions

The incident has sparked a wave of criticism and calls for accountability. Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, who became a member in 2022 and has also served as an MLA, has not commented on the case. The BMR Group, a prominent name in the seafood industry, has also faced scrutiny following the accident.
