Delhi High Court Orders Removal of Video Featuring Arvind Kejriwal’s Court Address

The Delhi High Court has directed Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to remove a video recording from social media platforms featuring Arvind Kejriwal addressing a trial court. In the video, Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was seen speaking during proceedings related to the Delhi excise policy case.

A bench comprising justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Amit Sharma issued notices to six individuals, including Sunita Kejriwal, and social media giants X, Meta, and YouTube. The notices were issued in response to a petition alleging violations of the Delhi High Court‘s rules on video conferencing.

The high court’s interim order also instructed the social media platforms to remove any similar content that may be reposted after the initial video was taken down. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on July 9, following an ex-parte order passed during the current proceedings.

The petition, filed by lawyer Vaibhav Singh, contends that during Arvind Kejriwal’s appearance before a trial court on March 28 in connection with the excise policy case, he personally addressed the court. Subsequently, the video recording of these proceedings was uploaded to social media platforms, which allegedly contravenes the guidelines outlined in the High Court of Delhi Rules for Video Conferencing for Courts, 2021.

This legal development underscores the ongoing debate surrounding the dissemination of court proceedings through digital platforms and the adherence to prescribed protocols, particularly in high-profile cases involving public figures.
