Supreme Court Issues Notices on NEET-UG Question Paper Leak Allegation

Supreme Court Reviews NEET-UG 2024 Results Amid Accusations of Malpractices; Counselling Continues

The Supreme Court, in response to allegations of malpractices and paper leaks in NEET-UG 2024, seeks the National Testing Agency’s input on the possibility of conducting the exam afresh. However, it declines to halt the counselling process for successful candidates seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses.

A plea presented before a vacation bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah on June 11 urged the court to order a fresh conduct of NEET-UG 2024 in light of reported instances of question paper leaks and other irregularities.

Despite this, the bench declined to suspend the counselling process for aspirants who emerged victorious in the recently held NEET-UG 2024 examination, which took place on May 5 and witnessed its results declared on June 4, contrary to the anticipated date of June 14.

NEET-UG, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), serves as the qualifying examination for admission into various medical and dental courses across government and private institutions nationwide.

The petitioners, represented by Shivangi Mishra and others, alleged multiple instances of paper leaks, contending that such malpractices violated Article 14 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to equality. They argued that the leaks provided an unfair advantage to certain candidates, undermining the integrity of the examination process.

The Supreme Court has tagged this plea with a pending case and requested the NTA to provide a response, underscoring the seriousness with which it views the allegations of malpractice surrounding NEET-UG 2024.
