This partnership marks a significant step in enhancing India’s capabilities in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market, providing a promising outlook for the country’s energy transition journey.
In a significant move to accelerate India’s energy transition, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Pvt Ltd (ARACT) has entered into a licensing agreement with GIB EnergyX Slovakia s.r.o., a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech Co Ltd. This collaboration aims to advance lithium-ion cell technology in India.
The agreement allows GIB EnergyX to license Gotion’s ‘LFP technology’ to ARACT, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd (ARE&M). This partnership is set to revolutionize the manufacturing of LFP cells in both cylindrical and prismatic forms, ensuring the production of world-class lithium-ion cells.
“This comprehensive agreement enables Amara Raja to manufacture world-class LFP cells in both cylindrical and prismatic form factors,” the company announced in a statement.
The licensing deal includes access to cell technology intellectual property, support for establishing gigafactory facilities with the latest generation process technologies, integration with Gotion’s global supply chain network for critical battery materials, and customer technical support for solution deployment.
“We firmly believe that India will be one of the fastest-growing EV markets and that Gotion’s globally proven technology coupled with our three decades of expertise in the energy and mobility space will be a winning combination,” said Jayadev Galla, Chairman & Managing Director of ARE&M.
Steven Cai, Chairman of GIB EnergyX and Director of Gotion High-Tech Co, expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential benefits for Indian customers. “India is an exciting market with significant growth potential, and we deeply appreciate Amara Raja’s corporate values, success in the Indian market with energy storage products, and the strong customer relationships they have built over the years,” he added.
Cai highlighted Gotion’s competitive edge with its product technology and gigafactory manufacturing expertise, which continues to offer innovative solutions across the new energy value chain.
Both Amara Raja and Gotion are shareholders and board members of InoBat, a Slovakian lithium battery technology company focused on advanced applications such as electric aviation and developing a robust ‘Cradle to Cradle’ ecosystem for the battery value chain. GIB EnergyX, a joint venture between Gotion High-tech and InoBat, recently signed an investment agreement with the Slovak government to develop the first LFP battery gigafactory in the country.
