DJI launches the Avinox Drive System and Amflow Bikes, marking its entry into the eBike market with advanced features and premium pricing.
Chinese tech giant DJI, renowned for its drones and imaging products, has made a significant entry into the eBike market with the launch of a new electric bike brand and the introduction of its innovative Avinox Drive System. This move promises to revolutionize the electric mountain bike (eMTB) experience, leveraging DJI’s expertise in battery and motor technology.
DJI showcased its groundbreaking eBike drive system at the Eurobike event in Frankfurt, Germany, highlighting the potential to transform the way adventurous cyclists navigate challenging terrains. The company’s Christina Shang emphasized that DJI’s commitment to innovation and its deep-rooted expertise in drones and camera stabilization systems have culminated in the creation of Avinox.
The Avinox Drive System features a 250-W mid-drive motor weighing 2.52 kg (5.5 lb) and delivers an impressive 105 Nm (77.4 lb.ft) of torque, ideal for conquering steep inclines. The system incorporates compound planetary gears and DJI’s Smart-Assist algorithm, which automatically adjusts the level of assistance based on riding conditions. For riders who prefer manual control, the system offers eco, trail, turbo, and boost power modes.
A key component of the Avinox system is its companion app, which allows users to customize assist levels and activate an anti-theft system complete with movement detection, alarms, and push notifications. The system supports both 600-Wh and 800-Wh downtube battery packs with fast-charging capabilities. Additionally, a 2-inch touchscreen OLED display on the top tube acts as the system’s interactive hub, complemented by Bluetooth-enabled controllers to minimize handlebar clutter.
The first eMTB to feature the Avinox Drive System is the PL Carbon from DJI’s new brand, Amflow Bikes. This model boasts a lightweight carbon fiber frame weighing just 2.27 kg (5 lb) and is designed for high agility. The bike includes a four-bar linkage to reduce kickback, custom-tuned Fox Float Performance or X Factory rear shock with 150 mm of travel, and a Fox 36 Performance/Factory fork with 160 mm of travel for optimal bump absorption.
The PL Carbon rolls on 29-inch carbon rims with Maxxis tires but can accommodate a 27.5-inch rear wheel for enhanced agility. The bike is equipped with a SRAM 12-speed groupset, chain drive, and Magura four-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 203-mm rotors for reliable stopping power. Despite the motor’s continuous 250-W output, riders can enjoy boosts up to 1,000 W and 120 Nm (88.5 lb.ft) of torque when needed. The bike also features stationary gear shifting, Hill Start Assist, Auto Hold, and walk-assist capabilities for challenging terrains.
To ensure quality and safety, DJI is certifying the eMTB with TÜV SÜD, UL Solutions, and TÜV Rheinland. The Amflow Bikes website currently lists three model variants: the 800-Wh PL Carbon, a 600-Wh PL Carbon Pro, and an 800-Wh Carbon Pro.
Initial sales of the Amflow eMTBs are set to begin in Q4 in Germany, the UK, and Australia, with wider availability planned later. Pricing is expected to range between €7,000 and €12,000, positioning the Amflow family at the premium end of the market.
