The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation safety regulator, has issued an advisory aimed at promoting gender equality within the civil aviation sector. The advisory sets a target of 25% female representation in various positions by 2025 and outlines several measures for stakeholders to enhance the participation of women in the aviation workforce.
Stakeholders are encouraged to foster “enhanced representation” of women, implement leadership and mentorship programs, tackle stereotypes and gender bias, and improve work-life balance for female employees, according to an official source on Wednesday.
The circular aligns with the principles of gender equality embedded in the Indian Constitution and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) vision, which advocates for equal opportunities to achieve gender parity in aviation.
The DGCA’s advisory outlines specific actions stakeholders can take to refine their policies and practices to address workplace gender equality issues effectively.
“These steps include adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment, identifying diversity objectives, and formulating HR policies to achieve them,” the official stated. Additionally, the circular suggests diversifying work profiles for women employees, showcasing female role models and achievers, and taking other measures that promote a gender-inclusive work culture.
